Scott Speed just wants to race for wins

Scott Speed telling it like it is in this candid interview with Motorsport.com.

American racer Scott Speed is one of those interesting drivers who have done a little of everything throughout their career.

I don't run IndyCar on an oval. I have two kids and I love my life

Since stepping into rallycross, Speed was an immediate success, winning on more than one occasion. So what made the transition to this extreme side of racing so easy? "I'm not sure, it's the same with Nelson (Piquet Jr.) really. We just have a lot of good racing experience. You take anyone here and put them in one of those cars, they'll be right there after a couple practice sessions."

Thoughts on Formula E

Speed finished second in his Formula E debut and he told Motorsport.com that the opportunity is really a perk of being part of the Andretti family. "It's part of being with the team, it all depends on schedules and time though. GRC is still very much my focus but if we can do some of this on the side, that would be great."

When Hendrick calls. I have no interest in running anything more over there without having a chance to win in it.

Scott Speed on when he would return to NASCAR

Speed's love of race cars has no limits, as is exemplified by his very diverse racing background. But how does he like the feel of the fully electric Formula E cars? "It's a lot different, but I'll drive a golf cart, it doesn't matter as long as we're all in golf carts, I don't care. (laughs) I don't prefer one thing over the other."

No ovals

When asked further about other ambitions, including IndyCar, the Andretti pilot obviously already has his mind made up about that. "I don't run IndyCar on an oval. I have two kids and I love my life ... Bottom line. It's just not for me." He DNQ'ed in his lone attempt at the Indy 500 in 2011.

NASCAR return?

Could a potential NASCAR comeback be in the California native's future? Unlikely... "When Hendrick calls. I have no interest in running anything more over there without having a chance to win in it. I spent too many years (with backmarker teams) and it's frustrating when you don't have a chance. Over here and in GRC, we can win. The opportunity is there."

Right now, the only championship Speed is contesting full-time is the GRC, but with no full-time driver set for Andretti's Formula E program, could that be his next step? "Obviously, with my background, it's possible but it all depends on the direction the team goes."

An unintentional companion

Throughout his career, Scott Speed has had an unintentional companion since he began his foray into professional motorsports ... Nelson Piquet jr. "I run into the guy everywhere! First series I ever raced in Europe was the same as him ... British F3 in 2003. "

Speed would not take the bait when asked who the better wheelman is between the two. The 2015 GRC season kicks off on the final weekend of May in St. Petersburg, Florida.
