Nelson Piquet Jr has slammed title rival and fellow Brazilian Lucas di Grassi after the qualifying session at Monaco today.
NEXTEV TCR driver Piquet alleged that di Grassi blocked him deliberately on his potentially quickest lap in the first segment of qualifying.
“It is ironic really as he (di Grassi) is the guy who is always complaining to the stewards about traffic and being held up,” said Piquet. “Then today he blocks my whole last sector and screwed my main lap."
Piquet had more scathing words for di Grassi – who heads him in the standings by just one point after six of the 11 rounds completed.
“We have raced together in many series and I have always been in front of him, there is no comparison (between us),” he added.
Di Grassi was forthright in his defence, saying: “Nelson was 10-20 metres behind. There was nothing in it.
"I had to overtake slower cars too. To be honest he hasn’t been compromised that much and it was a fair distance.”
Di Grassi was placed under investigation by the stewards for blocking.
