SRT aims at victory on home ground with Soulet and Cloet
For SRT this coming weekend is the culmination of an exceptionally busy and excellent season with a final round in front of a home crowd. The last race of the FIA GT Citation Cup will be the decisive one for the title of vice-champion and SRT driver Tom Cloet, who with three victories under his belt earlier this season is looking to definitely clinch that title. None other than Maxime Soulet will be the second driver in the fast C5-R of the Belgian team. Maxime Soulet is definitely not an unknown entity for SRT, having won together with Patrick Selleslagh's team the 2006 edition of the 24 Hours of Zolder and at the end of July Soulet finished in tenth place with this same car during the recent 24 Hours of Spa.
"I'm really looking forward to it", Tom Cloet starts off his comments for the coming weekend. "It's going to be a great weekend and I really intend to outshine everyone here in Zolder, where I have in the past experienced some of my best days. Obviously one of the previous highlights is my victory, together with Maxime Soulet, in the 24 Hours of Zolder 2006." "It's really important for me to grab that title of vice-champion, and preferably with a victory. We have an exceptionally strong season behind us, with three wins and five podium places and it would be a pity to miss out on a prize. But with Soulet at my side I'm fully confident." Tom Cloet will also be competing in the Belcar, with a Ferrari 430 of the French Sport Garage.
Patrick Selleslagh is also looking forward to the weekend with full confidence. "I concur with Tom's remarks, because for me a victory in Zolder would be a fantastic crowning to what has been a long but great season. In fact here at Zolder I have two of my most faithful drivers with me and I hope to be in a position to organise a small party on Sunday evening."
For Maxime Soulet it will undoubtedly also be a long weekend. "I will do everything in my power to help both Tom and SRT, but I also have a similar assignment in the Belcar series with the Porsche of GPR...Definitely a heavy programme. And as such I'm .doubly motivated. I'll be able to measure up once again with some of the top on the European racing scene and such an opportunity for a young driver such as myself is great. In addition I find it really fantastic that time after time Patrick places full trust in me being allowed to battle it out with the Corvette."
