MARC LIEB AND MARC BASSENG JOIN PROSPEED COMPETITION IN ZOLDER
Factory Drivers And Support For FIA GT Finale
Next weekend, ProSpeed Competition will end their 2007 international campaign on a high: for the finale race of the FIA GT Championship, the Belgian Porsche 997 GT3 RSR will be driven by none other than factory drivers Marc Lieb and Marc Basseng. For ProSpeed Competition, the presence of the two factory drivers in the last race of the world's main GT championship is the culmination of a year-long effort to establish the team on the international scene in view of a full international programme in 2008.
"All year long we have worked hard to make the name of ProSpeed Competition known beyond our national borders," team boss, Rudi Penders said. "That's why we tried to compete in international races as often as our national calendar and available entries in these races would allow us to. We debuted in the Dubai 24 Hours with a third overall and second in class, before taking the new car to the FIA GT race in Monza, the Spa 24 Hours and the Spa 1000 kilometres. Initially we had planned to do Petit Le Mans as well, but then the chance to do Zolder in much better conditions came up, so the choice was quickly made."
Apart from the factory drivers, ProSpeed Competition's 997 GT3 RSR will also benefit from Pirelli tyres, the first time this season the team will use the Italian rubber. With the drivers and tyres package comes engineering support as well, to allow Lieb and Basseng to have the best possible tools to help Porsche colleagues Emmanuel Collard and Matteo Malucelli secure the title in GT2.
"Collard and Matucelli are just three and four points behind the four Ferrari drivers leading the championship, so they still have a serious chance at clinching the title," Penders continued. "Having an extra factory-supported Porsche on the grid will of course help them in their quest and we at ProSpeed Competition are more than happy to help the company achieve its goals. With Lieb and Basseng driving I'm sure we will see the ProSpeed colours near the front of the GT2 pack. Let's not forget that last year Marc Basseng debuted at Zolder when he replaced me in the Belcar race and promptly parked our car on GT2 pole and then continued to win the race and the title!"
Apart from the FIA GT finale, ProSpeed Competition will also enter two Porsches 997 GT3 Cup for Penders/Lamot and Bouvy/Loix in the Belcar finale race held on the same day. The FIA GT race starts on Sunday at 1.15pm, the Belcar race at 3.45pm.
