Bobbi Grabs His First Victory Of The Season in Hockenheim.
After 2 second place wins and a fourth place, the ex world champion Matteo Bobbi finally got his first victory this season.
A well deserved victory for Bobbi & Gardel who were in the lead for most of the third hour of the race.
Matteo took off in 4th place but slipped down to 5th during the first lap. However, Bobbi managed to progressively climb his way up and finished the first hour of the race in second place. Matteo Bobbi then handed the car over to Gabriele Gardel who maintained the position. When Matteo was given the car in the last hour of the race, he was right behind Alzen's # 5 Saleen. The Saleen's soon afterwards started having technical problems and eventually was forced to retire.
Bobbi kept up the pace and was at a 30 second advantage over GPC's Ferrari 575.When things started to fall into place and while Matteo was keeping an eye on his opponents and was limiting the use of his tyres, the Marshalls decided to bring in the safety car with 10 minutes left to the end of the race. They had to clean up the debris that was on the track. This caused all the distances the cars had held in the last 3 hours to disappear. The Ferrari 575 took advantage of this for a few laps and was in the lead until it had to make a pit stop for a punctured tyre. Matteo Bobbi re-conquered the first place and took home the victory ahead of the other Scuderia Italia's two Ferrari 550s.
"We worked very well this weekend and so we deserved the victory. It was the victory that had slipped out of our hands during the last races but that we finally grabbed this weekend. During the qualifications, I did my utmost best and conquered the fourth place on the grid. During the race we were constant and fast. Both Gabriele and I kept a high rhythm and had a remarkable advantage over the others until the safety car came in. We didn't allow the victory to slip out of our hands this time and this repays us for all of our hard work, I'm extremely satisfied for Scuderia Italia as well who conquered the whole podium with its three cars in the first three positions."
