Martini Callaway Racing enjoyed the first race of the season at Silverstone: the team owned by Uli Berberich-Martini and Gianni Celli experienced a mix of emotions. While Luca Pirri and Jurgen Von Gartzen scored a very encouraging podium finish, the number 16 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3 had to retire. The car, driven by Uli himself, together with German racing legend Klaus Ludwig, was hit from behind by a Ferrari with body and suspension damage in the right rear quarter. The 17 cars, brought on track by the two Czeck youngsters Martin Matzke and Jiri Skula (both born in 1990), did not start due to severe problems with engine and gearbox, and won't be part of the game tomorrow on race 2.

N.18 - Luca Pirri Juergen Von Gartzen - 3rd overall
Luca Pirri: "We're really satisfied with today's third place, as we had some little trouble during practice, and we were forced to find the right feeling with the car in qualifying. I managed to earn several spots, handing Juergen the 17 Corvette in a good position."
Uli Berberich-Martini: "We had the feeling that the car was finally able to run problems-free, and the performance was fine too. I tried to avoid any contact, but unfortunately a Ferrari run into us, forcing me to bring the car back to pit-lane. We're confident we'll start tomorrow's race with the full potential"
