Trofeo Pirelli champion Grossmann romps to Race 2 pole

Ferrari Challenge Europe Trofeo Pirelli champion Bjorn Grossmann dominated qualifying for the third race of the Finali Mondiali weekend at Mugello.

Grossmann, crowned champion at the previous round at Valencia, stamped his authority on the 30 minute session in the closing stages following a red flag interruption, surging to the top of the timesheets on a 1m52.509.

Friday's Trofeo Pirelli winner Matteo 'Babalus' Santoponte came close to deposing Grossmann, falling 0.007s short, before the German strengthened his grip on the top spot by improving his best time to a 1m51.856s.

That was enough to give Grossmann pole by 0.583s from Santoponte, with Trofeo Pirelli Am pacesetter Alessandro Vezzoni taking third overall a further half a second back. David Gostner and Florian Merckx completed the top five.

Steve Wyatt meanwhile took a comfortable pole in the Asia-Pacific class, finishing eighth fastest overall, while Tani Hanna and Xin Jin topped the Asia-Pacific Trofeo Pirelli Am and Coppa Shell categories respectively.
