The last appointment in the 2012 motorsport season in the Ferrari Challenge, caused a great surprise for Kessel Racing. Fons Scheltema with his Ferrari 458 conquered the first place in the Shell Cup Finale Mondiale 40-minute-race amongst the Gentlemen. So the weekend in Valencia ended with a big success where Scheltema had been deluded in the Shell Cup category amongst the Gentlemen on Saturday. In the Shell Cup Finale Mondiale, where Scheltema classified 10thoverall and 1st in his class, Alexis De Bernardi crossed the line 18th after heavy traffic in the early stages of the race.
Künzli and Zanuttini didn’t participate in the Finale Mondiale. Zanuttini because the latter damaged the 458 while going into the track on Saturday. Furthermore the last races of the different championships were held over the weekend.
The best result for Kessel Racing was gained by Ringo Chong from Singapore during his first experience with Kessel: he won the second race in the Trofeo Pirelli amongst the starters from the Asia-Pacific division.
In race one of Coppa Shell Marco Zanuttini gained 13th place, while in race two he had an accident and he couldn’t participate in the Finale Mondiale. De Bernardi finished his race spinning off the track in race one, while he concluded race two in 12th place. Daniel Künzli crossed the line 18th and 21st.
Scheltema, after his retirement on Friday, due to mechanical problems. In race two he crossed the line 10th, while his competitors in the Championship Prinoth and Sauto closed the season with the same amount of points after race two, and a penalty for Moiseev, but had better placements throughout the season.
The next event for Kessel Racing is in less than two weeks in Abu Dhabi for the 12-Hour-race, a classic on the winter race calendar.
