Cooper MacNeil scores two Podiums in First NA Ferrari Challenge races
I’m very happy with the result.
18 year old sportscar standout Cooper MacNeil has yet another series that can call him a podium finisher. The Hinsdale, IL. resident scored two impressive third places in the NA Ferrari Challenge series, adding to his growing CV. MacNeil piloted the No. 20 WeatherTech/Ferrari of Houston 458 Ferrari during action at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. (April 29th-May 1st)
Race one, saw MacNeil make an instant impression in qualifying narrowly missing pole position. Starting off-pole, MacNeil settled in to a race long battle with some series regulars for a victory. The machine, prepared by Risi Competizione, could not keep up with the rigorous demands of the flowing 2.5 mile road circuit and tight competition. Mid-race handling issues held Cooper to a conservative third place.
Race two MacNeil, would start third and keep the car in one piece while others faltered. MacNeil at the finish was only shy of victory by 1.340 seconds, however this was only good enough for third position. MacNeil would make however, four straight podiums in his last four professional race starts.
“I’m very happy with the result seeing how this was my first trip to Infineon Raceway. The WeatherTech/Ferrari of Houston 458 Ferrari performed very well and I’m sure I’ll be challenging even more for victories as seat time develops with this new car. It’s great to have the car in one piece after the dust settled and be able to focus for round two action at Laguna,” MacNeil was quoted.
MacNeil will be back with his old team, Fall-Line Motorsports for the start of his chase for a SCCA SafeRacer National Touring 2 championship later this month at Blackhawk Farms raceway in Illinois.
Next stop in Ferrari Challenge will take place May 20th-22nd at Monterey, California’s Laguna Seca.
