Maxime Pelletier (18, CAN) will make a final run in Formula BMW this coming weekend as a new addition to Autotecnica's driver lineup including Gianmarco Raimondo (18, CAN) as they both challenge for victory in the Formula BMW World Final in Mexico City. Pelletier and Raimondo find themselves once again as team mates as they were in their karting days a few years ago. The Canadian duo will prove to be a force to be reckoned with as they race along the renowned Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in the heart of Mexico City, Mexico.
Pelletier is no stranger to Autotecnica as he spent a lot of time in one of its Formula BMW cars while testing in preparation for his 2007 racing season. He will approach the weekend with no pressure and a relaxed state of mind as he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Although it will be his first race in an Autotecnica car, he has three years of experience racing in Formula BMW and will put all that to work in pursuit of the grand prize: a Formula 1 test drive in the BMW Sauber F1 car.
Raimondo is coming off the 2008 Formula BMW Americas season on a high as the Rookie Champion. He has walked the track in Mexico City and expects it to be a very fast run. Although the high altitude will keep the engines from developing their usual peak power, the long straights and fast turns of the track will encourage lots of drafting and passing and this caters to Raimondo's style as was evident earlier in the season at Laguna Seca and Montreal. Raimondo expects to mark his spot in history as one of the best drivers in the world of Formula BMW.
The on-track action begins Friday December 5th and continues into the weekend with the final race on Sunday December 7th.
