Gelles to tackle BMW USA championship with Four Young Knights
Front Royal, March 8, 2005. -- With the 2005 Formula BMW USA season two months from the first doubleheader in Laguna Seca, Gelles Racing has completed its roster of four drivers who will compete in this very competitive series. This talented foursome comes with an international flavor with world-class talent: Renato Jader-David from Brazil is returning to the team with an accomplished skill set to compete with the best-of-the-best for the Championship. Darin Marcus, an American with South African origins, is moving up to open-wheel racing. Justin Moon from California, earned a BMW USA scholarship after two sessions in Valencia, Spain. In addition, Maxime Soulet from Belgium has a formula championship and sedan championship under his belt. The Gelles Racing team is well positioned with a squadron to be reckoned with in the 2005 season.
"What a fabulous quartet of young guns, claims team owner Bob Gelles. All of our drivers have the skills and dedication to win the overall title. They come to us with high credentials, behave on the track like professional drivers and they were all very impressive in our private testing so far. With the quality of the drivers coming to the BMW series this year, the competition will be even better than last year. And you can bet on Gelles to put drivers on the podium at every race."
Justin Moon - Car #3
Talent does not wait many years to blossom. Fresh out of his karting years where he was always at the top of the charts, culminating as the 2004 SKUSA S-1 National Champion, Justin Moon was invited to the BMW training program in Spain and came back as a scholar, one of only six in the American series. The youngest of the group at only 16, Justin could make it all the way to the moon!
Renato Jader-David - Car #4
At age 19, Renato comes from Brazil with a karting and Formula Renault background. Last year with Gelles Racing for most of the season, he claimed a few podiums and was one of the feature racers in the FR2000 series. The experience he gained in the previous years in open-wheel racing will give him an edge at the start of the season.
Maxime Soulet - Car #5
The oldest of the four knights at age 21, Maxime comes to America with three Belgium karting titles, a MINI Sedan championship and a FR1600 championship. A member of the Thierry Boutsen file, Maxime wants to be the next Belgium to make it to the big leagues. Needless to say, Soulet was blazing fast in his test days so far.
Darin Marcus - Car #6
At the rate this 17 year-old has enjoyed success in his karting years, who knows where he will be driving in three or four years! His goal is to continue to dominate as he has in karting and his first season in open-wheel will be a turning point. Give Darin a few races to get used his new environment and expect him at the top of the standings.
More test days before Laguna Seca
The Gelles Racing BMW crew will conduct a few more testing days before the March 15 ban. Afterwards, they will take part in the scheduled testing days at Road Atlanta, VIR and the mandatory Carolina Motorsport Park days before the season kicks off in California.
"Our team is working hard to give perfect FB2 cars to these young men, adds Gelles. Expect us to be fast."
Season starts April 29
Gelles Racing will enter four cars in the Formula BMW USA 2005 Championship. The team is sponsored by Western Union, Tenfore, Care Centric, USA TODAY and BMW of Sterling. Gelles Racing is the reigning 2004 Formula Renault Champion Team.
