Alexander Rossi Eager For Formula BMWUSA Round One
Teenage sensation well prepared for FBMW USA season opener
Nevada City, CA -- The 2007 Formula BMWUSA championship kicks off in Utah next weekend, at Miller Motorsports Park. Since signing with Hearn Motorsports in December 2006, Alexander Rossi has racked up a hundreds of miles of testing in his FB2 racecar.
Alexander is the youngest ever open-wheel racing champion in North America, winning the Skip Barber Western Regional Championship when he was just 14 years old, and he is keen to add to his already considerable successes by taking the FBMW championship this season.
"In racing there are a lot of race winners but only one champion," he said from his home in Nevada City, CA, "so our goal this year is to podium every single race. It is a very high expectation to place on myself, but for example, six podiums are better than three wins and three not so good races. I have to take this into consideration when my goal is to be at the top."
It certainly sounds like a carefully thought through strategy for an assault on the title, and it would appear to be a realistic one too. At recent tests at VIR and MSR Houston Rossi was often setting lap times that put him consistently at the front and the teenager -- now 15 years of age -- is raring to get to the racing proper.
"This winter has been fantastic." He beams, speaking of the last few months' testing. "I've gotten to know the team really well and we are working really well together. Now we are now looking forward to a really successful season and getting a good start at Miller."
How good of a start to the season can we expect from Rossi? The last time he raced at Miller Motorsports Park he scored a second place finish. Who would bet against him going one better this weekend?
