Young Californian to continue his FBMWUSA championship bid with Indiana based team
Nevada City, CA -- Alexander Rossi announced today that he will join Team Apex Racing for the latter half of the 2007 Formula BMWUSA championship.
Rossi had driven with the Hearn Motorsports outfit in the opening six rounds of the series, tasting success with a podium finish and setting a new track record at Miller Motorsports Park. He currently lays third in the championship points standings.
"Basically a seat became available at Apex, and at the same time Richie [Hearn] was approached to run a new driver in the series." Said Team Rossi Motorsports principle, Pieter Rossi. "Everything seemed to fall into place very neatly."
"Everything is amicable." Explained Hearn Motorsports owner Richie Hearn. "We have to consider our interests further down the line, as does Alexander, and the way opportunities came up, it was best to move on earlier rather than later."
"I want to thank Richie and everyone at Hearn Motorsports." Said Alexander Rossi. "With their help I am currently third in the championship, and I now look forward to building on that with Team Apex Racing."
Rossi will begin driving for Team Apex Racing at Lime Rock this weekend. The team's Managing Director David Hunt said of Rossi joining his squad; "Alexander has shown his ability to contend for wins since the first series test at Road Atlanta. We have been impressed with Alexander's performance to date, and feel privileged to play a part in the continued development of this promising young driver."
Lime Rock marks rounds seven and eight of the FBMWUSA championship and will be run alongside the ALMS event at the Connecticut track.
