Formula BMW returns to the Rock.

Bracknell, 13 April, 2007. The Formula BMW UK Championship 2007 got underway in spectacular style last time out at Brands Hatch on 1 April with Valle Makela (Nexa Racing) and Rookie, Marcus Ericsson (Fortec Motorsport) winning a race apiece to share the Championship lead.

In a thrilling season opener, Round One saw some of the closest fought Formula BMW racing of all time, with 21-year-old Finnish driver, Makela crossing the line just 0.137 seconds ahead of Henry Surtees (Carlin Motorsport).

The 16-year-old Swede, Ericsson made an impressive debut finishing third in his first ever single-seater race, before winning Round Two to become the first Rookie to win an outright race since 2004.

The Championship returns to Rockingham this weekend, offering a unique driving challenge to even the more experienced young drivers. The twisty infield and banked oval sections are unlike any other track on the Formula BMW UK Championship schedule and with plenty of overtaking opportunities; crowds can expect to see some great action.

After a disappointing start, pre-season favourite Josef Kral (Double R Racing) certainly has the pace to win - the young Czech was fastest here by over half a second in testing.

With 18 races making up this year's Championship, the 19-strong grid visit eight venues around the UK with the season drawing to a close at Knockhill in September. One thing that can be guaranteed this weekend is that the huge Rockingham grandstands will provide a perfect vantage point for spectators to watch the drama unfold.

At Rockingham, free practice will be on Friday, 20th April from 09.50 to 10.35 and 14.45 to 15.30. On Saturday (21st April) first qualifying will be from 10.20 to 10.40 and second qualifying from 14.45 to 15.05. The two 16 lap races will be held on Sunday (22nd April) at 10.00 and 12.55.
