Double win for Kral at Rockingham.
Rockingham, 22 April, 2007. Josef Kral (Double R Racing) made his first steps onto the podium this year, claiming a double victory in Rounds Three and Four of the Formula BMW UK Championship 2007, while Rookie Marcus Ericsson (Fortec Motorsport) maintains the Championship lead.
Kral capitalised on a mistake made by pole-sitter Adrian Quaife-Hobbs (Fortec Motorsport) at the start of Round Three to head the chasing pack into the first turn. Despite pressure from Henry Surtees (Carlin Motorsport) and after two re-starts, due to incidents further down the field, Kral never looked like relinquishing his lead. In race two another great start kept the pressure off and he took a lights-to-flag victory from pole.
"It wasn't easy in either race," Kral commented, I got away well in race one but was worried I'd jumped the start as no one else seemed to get off the line! It's great to get a double win - my disappointing races at Brands Hatch are now forgotten and hopefully there will be more wins from now on!"
Top Rookie, Ericsson put in two superb drives to finish fourth and third respectively, pushing team-mate Henry Arundel in both races to retain the Championship lead. I had the speed here and felt I could have finished higher, but Arundel was defending well and I just couldn't get through in either race. It's so important to take points in each round so I'm happy to keep my Championship lead," Ericsson commented.
Henry Arundel (Fortec Motorsport) jumped from sixth to second in the Championship after another consistent performance earned him third and second place finishes, despite continued pressure from Ericsson. "There is nothing between the two of us so the racing is really good," said Arundel. I still have a few things to work on but I am determined to make it one step higher on the podium!"
Henry Surtees finished top Rookie in Round Three, second overall, with Oliver Webb (Carlin Motorsport) third Rookie, seventh overall, following Ericsson. In Round Four Quaife-Hobbs and Surtees rounded out the top Rookies, finishing fifth and seventh overall, behind Ericsson.
The teams now prepare for the trip to Thruxton, Hampshire, in two weeks where, with no practice sessions, the drivers will be straight into qualifying. There will be a few scores to settle as the 18-strong grid battles for every
