Formula BMW Europe beckons for Ipswich youngster.
Rupert Svendsen-Cook will compete in the inaugural Formula BMW Europe Championship in 2008 after concluding a deal to race with Raikkonen Robertson Racing.
Rupert's second season of car racing will see him stepping up to the burgeoning series after competing in the Formula BMW UK Championship in 2007.
Looking to build on a promising debut year that saw him overcome his inexperience to prove quick on the most competitive grid the series has ever seen, Rupert will race with front-running outfit Raikkonen Robertson Racing, also known as Double R Racing, the team having won the opportunity to graduate to the European series themselves after a successful maiden UK campaign that yielded a total of six wins.
Raikkonen Robertson Racing is one of 13 teams from around Europe to earn a spot on the grid, in a series that will be featuring on the support package for several Formula 1 races in 2008.
In just a few short years, Raikkonen Robertson Racing, founded by new Formula 1 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen and his race manager Steve Robertson, have made its mark on the motorsport community, winning the renowned British Formula 3 Championship in 2006 and taking the runners-up spot on their first attempt at the Formula BMW UK Championship in 2007.
Indeed, having tested with several teams since the end of the season in September, Rupert is thrilled to be joining a team of such calibre and is excited at the prospect of competing on the same world stage as Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, as well as team owner Kimi Raikkonen.
Rupert stated: "I am really happy with this deal. I think they are a fantastic team to be with and, in my opinion, they will be the team to beat in 2008. I already get on really well with the people in the team, so I am very pleased to be here.
"It is going to be great to be supporting most of the Formula 1 grands prix in 2008. All the hype and atmosphere around the weekends will be a fantastic opportunity to experience too. I really can't wait."
Raikkonen Robertson Racing team principal, Anthony Hieatt said: "We are delighted to have Rupert with us for next year, in testing he has been consistently quick and has built a great rapport with the team... he has a promising future ahead of him".
Rupert is already embarking on an intense off-season programme intended to prepare him for the year ahead. By securing a deal well ahead of the first race in April, Rupert is hoping that he will have the upper hand over his rivals once the season starts.
Rupert added: "There is still a lot to see from our rivals before I can make predictions for the coming year, but I want to be at the sharp end and I really think we could be in a position to challenge for the championship."
Formula BMW Europe sees the amalgamation of the Formula BMW UK and Formula BMW Germany Championships for the first time in 2008. The series will see Rupert race in Spain, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, Belgium, and Italy, each one occurring on the same weekend as their respective Formula 1 grands prix.
