Maxime Pelletier ends up 12th in Montreal after being blocked
Montreal, June 8 2008. -- Maxime Pelletier was as close to his maiden victory in Formula BMW America on the circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in the second round of the weekend's double header. Starting from seventh place, he avoided traffic and a three-car shunt in the Senna corner and was lying fourth after the second corner. He pushed his BioCig single seater and reeled in two more places in the next lap. After a full-course yellow that regrouped the field, he was back in action and trailing the leader by inches. He tried for a few laps to pass him but was always blocked. At one point the third place car made contact with him because he had to slow down to prevent hitting again the leader. Finally, with three laps to go, he tried a last time at the east hairpin and was again blocked and had nowhere to go but the rear tire of the leader. His suspension was dammaged and he had to rejoin the pits.
"This absolutely crazy, he cried out. Everywhere I would try to pass him (Rossi), he would get his car in my path. First, he did not accelerate out of the hairpin and Mikael (Grenier) hit me and damaged his front wing. Then, he braked even harder when I tried to pass him at the same place a few laps later and I climbed on his rear wheel. It was obvious I was faster and that he was blocking. He was responsable for putting out of contention three drivers that race for the championship. I am very disapointed and I hope something will be done against him. In any case, there will be a few guys looking for him at Mid-Ohio."
Mid-Ohio double header
Formule BMW America will take to the track for another double header in two weeks from June 20 to the 22nd at the Mid-Ohio race track near Lexington, Ohio for rounds 5 and 6.
