Canadian teenager David Ostella will take a break from the books beginning today as he heads to New Jersey Motorsports Park and the Loud Energy Drink 150. The Formula BMW Americas Championship will contest rounds 13, 14, and 15 in support of the event at Thunderbolt Raceway, and Ostella is looking forward to the field being on equal footing for the latest triple-header.
"Practising on a simulator was out of the question because the track is so new and it's not on the program," Ostella said of preparing for the weekend ahead. "It certainly makes for an even playing field, which will make for better competition!" The Canadian rookie hasn't seen any action besides gym training in the last few weeks, but has been busy in the classroom at St. Thomas of Villanova in grade 12. The school year began while the Formula BMW drivers were testing at Thunderbolt, but Ostella quickly settled back into class when he returned home.
"The start of the school year was no problem because the teachers understand what I'm doing and why I was away," he said. "My classmates usually know what I'm up to as well, and they are all really supportive of my racing and a great source to give me confidence." The aspiring racer doesn't slouch in the classroom either, as his classes for the term include geography, physics, english and religion - but this weekend it will once again be all about racing as the teams take to one of North America's newest racing facilities. Ostella has big goals heading to three races, his favourite format by far.
"Triple-header weekends are the most fun because that means more racing, and that's what I love the most. I can't wait until it starts. My goal heading in is to make a return to the podium and finish top three. I was third fastest overall at the test, and I know I can go even faster!" Action begins Friday and continues through the weekend. David will once again be racing with support from Global Precast Motorsports, Alpinestars and RAW Integrated Ltd.
