Ruiz Lime Rock Park Formula BMW Americas Race Weekend Wrap-up
Challenging weekend adds to Ruiz's race experience
(Lakeville, CT) 14 July 20 08 -- Alexandre Ruiz emerged from a challenging Lime Rock Park race weekend for rounds 8 and 9 of the 2008 Formula BMW Americas championship with some new lessons learned to store in his growing experience bank as he added another new track to his racing resume. Ruiz, who returned from a trip to visit family in his native Brazil hungry for strong results, was disappointed to take two ninth-place finishes at Lime Rock Park, but knows that the challenges will make him a better racing driver in the future.
"We missed some time in the first session with some problems with the car, so I was kind of behind all the other guys all weekend from that point," said Ruiz, who visited the world headquarters of Sirius Radio in New York City following the Lime Rock race weekend. "I wanted to take more points in the championship this weekend, but this did not turn out to be a very good weekend for us. But I know that you have to learn from when there is a setback, so I will just look ahead to Road America. Everyone says it is an amazing track so I am looking forward to racing on it."
The Lime Rock Park weekend was originally slated to host three rounds of Formula BMW Americas racing, but a local ordinance saw that plan scuttled with just two races run on Saturday. The facility was freshly paved and sported a new configuration for the BMW race weekend, and while that evened out the advantage that Ruiz' competition had in terms of experience at the track, he was wishing he could have run the original track layout after seeing things first hand.
"I liked that the track had more places to pass (with the new layout), but as a driver I just wish that we could stay on the fast corners that they have here," said Ruiz. "But I know that there are a lot of fast corners at Road America, so I am looking forward to that!"
Ruiz will now return to Indianapolis to continue his American experience, staying close to the Team APEX/HBR shop headquarters in Brownsburg and continuing to spend time with the team as well as keeping his extensive fitness regimen in place.
