Ruiz Ready for Lime Rock Park Formula BMW Americas Debut
Junior visits BMW of North America headquarters ahead of Lime Rock Park round
(Lakeville, CT) 10 July 20 08 -- Alexandre Ruiz will continue his American racing education this weekend as Formula BMW Americas returns to Lime Rock Park to stage rounds seven and eight of the 2008 Championship. The race weekend is a highly anticipated one for much of the motorsports community, as the famed track has undergone a complete repaving and re-profiling.
This new track layout could help Rookie Ruiz, as his competitors won't enjoy any more familiarity with the track than he will as he takes to the track for the first time in his Apex Racing FB02 and learns the dips, twists, and diving turns of the track which is situated just two hours north of New York City.
Ruiz enters the race weekend third in the Rookie standings with 44 points collected in the opening six races of the year after adding to his top five tally with a fourth place result highlighting the Series' visit to Mid-Ohio. He also enters the race weekend fresh from a family visit back in his native Brazil, and is looking forward to a strong second have of his Rookie year of formula car competition.
"I think Lime Rock will be a fun track but we will see what it is like when we get there because I know the pavement is all new so I hope that doesn't cause any problems," said Ruiz. "I've been learning the tracks as fast as I can and I enjoy that challenge as they are all a new experience for me. It was great to be back home for a little bit to see my family after Mid-Ohio, and now I am feeling relaxed and fully focused on improving my position in the Rookie standings and hopefully I can do that this weekend."
Ruiz also continued his development as a professional racing driver out of the car as he was invited to be part of a special event at BMW North America's corporate headquarters in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey before the Lime Rock Park race weekend. Ruiz showed his poise and progression with English as he took part in a question and answer session with a group of enthusiastic BMW North America employees. Ruiz will also participate in an FBMW America Scholarship drivers visit to the Sirius Radio headquarters in New York City on Sunday following the Friday-Saturday race event.
