Mac Makes His Mark With Motaworld

Motaworld Racing has snapped up Danish KF2 karting champion Mikkel Mac to bolster its effort in the Formula BMW Europe Championship.

The Chatham, Kent-based squad spotted Mac's potential during his first run in a Formula BMW car towards the end of 2008 when he impressed with his technique. Subsequently, after a test last week on the GP circuit at Sepang, Malaysia he was signed on the spot.

Team owner Alan Waite said "Once again I was impressed with Mikkel's skills and his ability to learn quickly. His improvement over the three days at Sepang was quite remarkable - he was only just shy of the pole time for last year's championship race. Even more remarkable was that he set the time on old tyres!"

Mac, 15, joins Ollie Millroy in the Motaworld line-up and both drivers have continued testing with the team at Sepang. They were joined by Australia's Steel Giuliana, the BMW Pacific Scholarship winner, who was having a trial with the squad.

The Danish teenager said "The change from karting to Formula BMW is a big step, but after six days testing in Malaysia I have made good progress, which I am quite sure is the result of the professional supervision that Motaworld Racing gave me."

He added "I am very pleased that I have signed the contract with Motaworld Racing. The team spirit is outstanding, and I feel very comfortable here, which is important when we have to work together the whole season. There is no doubt that Motaworld Racing is the right team to improve my skills."

"2009 is going to be tough, because there are so many new things for me to learn. But I am looking forward to getting started, taking the plunge and doing my best."
