Fisichella Motor Sport completes Formula BMW Europe line-up
Fisichella Motor Sport International is pleased to announce that it has completed its driver line-up for the 2009 Formula BMW Europe championship with the signing of 17-year-old Spaniard Ramon Pineiro. Ramon will join previously announced FMSI drivers Doru Sechelariu and Kevin Gilardoni.
Ramon began karting in 1991 at the age of six and had a successful career over the following years. In 2007 he started his single-seater racing career by enrolling in the Formula BMW scholarship programme. He embarked on the Formula BMW Europe championship in 2008 with Fortec and achieved two pole positions and a fastest lap on his way to becoming sixth overall in the rookie standings.
The 2008 Formula BMW Europe was the inaugural year of the championship after a merger of the Germany and UK competitions. It became a new, continental series for junior drivers, and formed part of the support race programme for seven European races of the FIA Formula One World Championship, giving drivers and teams unprecedented visibility and the highest level of racing. The 2009 season is sure to be even more thrilling, with FMSI determined to make its mark on the championship and aim for the series title.
Ramon Pineiro: "I'm really happy to be with FMSI. They have a really fast and good car, as was demonstrated in the official test, and I will do my best to get the maximum out of the car. I hope I can achieve some wins with the team."
Paolo Coloni, Team Principal: "Ramon is a very fast driver and, together with Doru and Kevin, will make FMSI a strong contender for the teams' title. I'm really proud to have three of them capable of winning races and I expect lot of exciting results."
