"A GREAT WEEKEND" was how Jonathan Summerton summed up the weekend at Nurburgring, Germany, for the Formula BMW ADAC Series. He went on to say, " The team seem to be understanding my feedback more, thus giving me a better car. Hopefully we will continue to improve and obtain better results".
During the weekend the weather was the luck factor as it changed from dry to wet and wet to damp during the events.
Practice - Jonathan was quickest all session until it stopped raining and the track dried each lap went faster and faster. At the end of the first session Jonathan finished 3rd fastest, on this new to him track.
Qualifying - with back to back sessions and changing track conditions Jonathan qualified 6th and 7th. A great result! The from 2nd-7th there was only 1 and a half tenths between all of them.
Starting on row 3 Jonathan had a fantastic start, gaining a couple of places. However, at turn 1, he had to be patient as traffic on the outside went through. During the course of the race he worked his way up crossing the line just short of 5th and 6th placed cars in P 7.
A rain race was declared, however dry conditions were present at the start. Another great start allowed Jonathan to move up to 4th on turn 1. However, on the exit he was forced onto the grass to save crashing. This left him in a group of 3 cars all battling for the 5th place over the next ten laps. Eventually Jonathan managed to pull clear and start to chase down 4th. However, at the checkered time ran out giving him a credible 5th place.
Despite several DNF's through being hit by other cars Jonathan has now worked his way up in the points to 10th position, a place he knew would be difficult to reach in this, his first year in Germany.
Next race Zandvort, Netherlands August 27-28
