GU-Racing did it: Victory for Max Wissel in Zandvoort!

GU-Racing has stopped the victory-series of Eifelland-Racing in Formula BMW which holds from the first race-weekend in Oschersleben. Max Wissel catched the first victory for GU-Racing. With his win and place 4 on Saturday he was the most successful GU-Racing driver in Zandvoort. Carlos Gaitan pointed in both races, only Jens Hoing had more accidents than anything.

Into the Saturday race the GU-Racing drivers went from the positions 6 (Wissel), 10 (Hoing) and 16 (Gaitan). All three went through the first corner without problems. Max Wissel holds his 6. place, Jens improved to Position 9, Carlos holds his 16. position. The race near the beach of Zandvoort was set at 12 laps, but in lap 6 it came to the deciding accident where also Jens Hoing was involved: At a fight in the last sector one driver touched Jens Formula BMW. Jens had to race into the sand, the other guy spooned - with this many other drivers drove into it at this small part of the track. The Safety-Car had to come out for some laps. Max Wissel was best GU-Racing driver at this time on place 6, Jens Hoing was on position 9 with his damaged car, Carlos Gaitan was on position 12. Four laps before the finish the Safety-Car went back into the box. Wissel used the restart and improved to position 4 while Jens Hoing had heavy problems. The Berlin felt back to position 11, one place behind him Carlos Gaitan finished the race on position 12. Max Wissel drove into the finish at position 4.

After heavy rain in the night to Sunday the second race was hold nor on a wet track. The view for this race was like Saturday for the GU-Racing drivers: Max Wissel from P5, Jens Hoing from P9 and Carlos Gaitan von P18. But still the start should bring the decision: Started from place 5 Wissel react as fastest and he went into the first corner as second. With it the GU-Racing driver choose a long line and he came out of this corner as the leader. From this point he controlled the speed, he drove a race without any mistakes and finally he had a gap of more than 9 second at his start- finish victory in the finish. "My first win in Formula BMW. It was a nice feeling to stand there on the podium. Last week we thought Eifelland-Racing is the team to beat. And now we beat them, in the rain GU-Racing has the fastest cars in the field.", said the German.

Just Jens Hoing knew at least on Sunday that he hasn't got luck in Zandvoort. Like Wissel he won 4 positions at the start and was 5. after the first corner. But Hoing slides out after some laps in the second corner and damaged his car very hard. Nevertheless he continued the race without a front-wing, rear-wing and some other parts. But there wasn't more possible than the last place. Carlos Gaitan had just a problem at the start with wheel-spin. The Colombian showed a nice performance in his first rain-race, but the race-control gave him a penalty of 30 seconds because of he didn't slow down enough at a yellow flag. After it he finished on position 16 at the official result.

Teammanager Gunther Unterreitmeier: "A special feeling to see one of your guys at the top of the podium. Max raced very well, we did a good job and earned the win absolutely. After not so much luck at the beginning our drivers are also improving in the ranking. We are testing the next week with new drivers, with it we also try to make the cars faster and faster. I hope to see the result in 3 weeks in Oschersleben."
