Meritus fastest in F-BMW Asia testing in Korea

Irish-Malaysian Team Meritus Racing was once again fastest in pre-race testing in the AFOS Formula BMW Asia Championship, being held this weekend (23-24 Aug) at the Taebaek Circuit in Korea.

Currently in the lead of the Team Championship, having won every race so far, and first & second in the Drivers' Championship with TUNG Ho-Pin (Hong Kong, China) and Hanss LIN Po-Heng (Chinese Taipei) respectively, Meritus looks set to continue their domination and close out the season with 2 events still to come (Japan and China).

Tung was fastest in testing on Friday, with a best time of 55.69secs, ahead of team mate Lin who managed 55.91. Don Pastor of Team TEC Filipinas was third fastest on 55.96secs.

"We managed to find a really good setup for the car after just a couple of test sessions, so the car felt great. I'm really looking forward to qualifying tomorrow," said Tung, who has been on pole for every single race so far. "There aren't many over-taking opportunities at this track, so it's really important to get a good grid position," added Tung.

"The circuit is really beautiful and fun to drive. There aren't many corners, and you only need to brake 3 times, but that means every corner is very important. I think the times will be very close tomorrow," said Lin.

Local hero Kyong-Ouk YOU of Team BMW Korea E-Rain only managed 6th fastest in the first session, but was up to 2nd fastest in the second session, so he looks set to give the home crowd something to cheer about come race day.

Meritus' third driver, young rookie TJ CHIN from Malaysia, has shown a remarkable improvement, going 8th quickest with 56.72secs. "This is my kind of circuit. Most of the corners are flat out so I can just go for it. I hope I can keep my speed for qualifying, and get into the top 10," said Chin.

The success of Team Meritus would not be possible without the kind support of our sponsors Pacific Regency Hotel Apartments, Pan Global Insurance, Honeywell and Taiwan - Touch Your Heart.
