Brownsburg, IN (July 17, 2009) Team Apex Racing, USA is geared up and ready for the double header of rounds eight and nine of the Formula BMW Championship to be held Saturday during the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut. Today (July 17th), one practice and two qualifying sessions were held. The three rookie Apex drivers experienced a variety of elements throughout the day, all of which ended in their first run in the rain.

Practice was great experience for the Team Apex drivers. James Kovacic, driver of the #20 Formula BMW said, "The car was good, we just needed to make a few small adjustments." Driver of the #18 car, Joao Horto said, "The car got better and faster with each change we made." Team Apex practice results are the following: Horto, fourth fastest; Kovacic, fifth; and #19 Martin Sala, ninth.

The first qualifying run had ups and downs for Team Apex. Kovacic had the pole position for half of the session, but after pitting for a change, he was unable to find a drafting partner and fell back to the fourth position for the starting line-up. Horto and Sala also struggled with the draft, and will roll out in the eighth and ninth positions, respectively, for the first Formula BMW Americas race.

The second qualifying session began just as the rain rolled in. The drivers spent most of the run on the wet track in racing slicks. Sala stated, "This was my first time driving in the rain. I only got to make one lap on the rain tires because another competitor spun out in front of me."

The weather conditions impacted the line up results for the Formula BMW Americas second race; Kovacic will roll out in the fifth position; Horto in eighth; and Sala eleventh. Team Apex Technical Director, Louis D'Agostino said, "Racing in the rain is not easy, especially on slicks but it's a good opportunity for them to learn." Optimistically speaking, Kovacic said, "Our competitor (for Rookie cup) has the pole for race two, but I'm pretty sure we can have a hand over him tomorrow."
