Qualifying Results and Starting Line-up for Round 10
Elkhart Lake, WI (August 15, 2009) Team Apex Racing, USA is off to a great start as they prepare for rounds 10, 11, and 12 of the Formula BMW Americas Championship during the Time Warner Cable Road Race Showcase featuring the American Le Mans Series and SPEED World Challenge at Road America.
In qualifying for round 10 on Friday (August 14, 2009), Team Apex drivers finished strong. James Kovacic, driver of the No. 20 Formula BMW qualified in the third position, just 0.325 seconds from the leader. Joao Horto, driver of the No. 18, finished in the seventh position; and Martin Sala, driver of the No. 19, finished ninth.
Kovacic said, "We were consistently driving at the front of the field throughout the qualifying round. I'm excited for the race (Round 10). I feel like I'm in a good spot to move to the front."
"We were good in the beginning (of the qualifying round), running in third and fourth but I just couldn't get in the draft. In the race, I hope to be able to come to the front quickly like I did at Lime Rock Park," says Horto.
"I had a good car the first couple of laps, but then I got blocked on my fastest lap and just couldn't get back up to the front. I really like this track, when you draft you can go really fast and when you hard break in the corner, it's like you're on a roller coaster," claimed Sala.
The starting line-up for Team Apex drivers in Round 10 is: Kovacic row two, third position; Horto row four, seventh position; and Sala row four, eighth position.
Qualifying for Round 11 will be held this morning (Saturday, Aug. 15) and Round 10 of the Formula BMW Americas Championship will be held on Saturday afternoon. Stay tuned for qualifying and post race results.
