Elkhart Lake, WI (August 16, 2009) Team Apex Racing, USA gave their all in Rounds 11 and 12 of the Formula BMW Americas Championship during the Time Warner Cable Road Race Showcase featuring the American Le Mans Series and SPEED World Challenge at Road America.

In Round 11, Team Apex USA came home with a second place podium finish from Joao Horto, driver of the No. 18 Formula BMW. This was the first podium finish for Horto in his rookie season. "It was awesome racing; I'm so happy! This whole year we have been working so hard for this," exclaimed Horto.

James Kovacic, driver of the No. 20 Formula BMW, was battling for the lead in the first half of the race, but fell to the middle of the field towards the end. "Early in the race it was really dicey racing. I had to be careful to keep it on the track. After the caution I got in the lead, but I lost the rhythm. Unfortunately I made a mistake, missing a gear, then lost the draft and wasn't able to climb back up the field," said Kovacic.

Martin Sala, driver of the No. 19, started in eighth, moved up quickly and was battling for a top five spot until he spun out in turn five. He gathered the Formula BMW back up with no damage, but was unable to catch the draft to move back up the pack again. "I just got impatient and didn't time my pass right," Sala said.

Round 12 came with a wild ride for Kovacic. Within the first few laps of the race, there was a three car pile-up that included Kovacic. His Formula BMW went airborne into the catch fence. The incident caused a full field caution that lasted throughout the remainder of the race.

"This is such an unfortunate incident for Kovacic who was leading the Rookie Championship points prior to the start of the race. Thankfully no one was seriously injured," said David Hunt, team owner.

Team Apex finished Round 12 in the same order that they started, Horto in fifth place, Sala in seventh, and Kovacic in 11th.

The team will now prepare for the final races of the season, Rounds 13 and 14 of the Formula BMW Americas Championship on August 28th-30th during the Mobil 1 presents the Grand Prix of Mosport.
