Italian Grand Prix began well for Coloni Motorsport: in the Friday qualifying Ricardo Sperafico earned the third place while the excellent rookie Montanari set the ninth time, with a very small gap from the second row.
Montanari, young hope of San Marino Republic, was called to substitute for Zsolt Baumgartner, who was appointed as official driver by JordanF1 for this Gp too: Christian faced with professionalism and maturity his debut in the most demanding and selective 3-litres championship and he set a very good time, 1.39.908 (less than two tenths off the pole), worth of the ninth position and ahead of more experienced drivers.
Great result of Ricardo Sperafico: the Brazilian, in spite of not good circuit conditions (a strong wind and a lot of leaves on track), scored a time of 1.39.381. The second place in drivers’ standings gets then closer, thanks to the very good results obtained by Ricardo throughout the whole season.
Saturday at 16.00 the race-start; the event will be broadcasted by Eurosport on September 14th at 00.45.
Christian Montanari, 9th : “It was a good debut and I’m very happy with my result. I’m glad to drive in Formula 3000 here in Monza, an exciting and very fast circuit. My time is good, less than two tenth off the pole, the car is ok and so I hope to drive a good race. My first time in Formula 3000 is really wonderful”.
Ricardo Sperafico, 3rd : “My single-seater is good but I met difficult track conditions due to the wind and the leaves. For the race, the start and the pit-stop will be very important, we can certainly aim at the podium”.
Paolo Coloni, Team Principal : “First of all, we are happy to see our driver, Zsolt Baumgartner, racing in Formula One with Jordan and we are also very satisfied with Montanari’s debut. In spite of the few time he had had at disposal, Christian did immediately feel at ease and he could score a great time. This is the confirmation of the good potential of our driver and of the validity of our ‘Junior’ program we had built this year in the Italian F3. Thanks to third place taken by Sperafico and to Montanari we expect an exciting race”.
