Coloni Motorsport and Monaco: a continuing love story...
Monaco Grand Prix: a name that evokes the autosport history, legendary challenges and the fascination of an inimitable track, not only for his technical features. Coloni Motorsport has a special bond with Monaco's circuit, starting from 1984 when the team took here his first international victory in F.3 with Ivan Capelli, until 2002 with the exalting Toccacelo race in F.3000. We have not to forget the excellent result obtained by Paolo Coloni (now Team Principal of the Italian squad), the last Italian driver who set in 1994 a fastest lap in F.3 on the streets of the Principality, seat of the next F.I.A. F.3000 International race in the last week end of May.
Perhaps Monaco Grand Prix is the only race in the F.1 and F.3000 Circus that is worth of a whole season, both for his long, glorious history and for his features which exalt drivers' qualities: in Monaco the man has the same value as the car.
Thanks to car's competitiveness and to his talented drivers, Ricardo Sperafico and Zsolt Baumgartner, Coloni Motorsport can then aim to the victory: in facts, both Coloni drivers are test drivers in prestigious F.1 teams, Sperafico in the BMW-WilliamsF1 Team and Baumgartner in the JordanF1, and they will arrive at Monaco extremely motivated after the results scored in the first three races.
Ricardo Sperafico will point to victory to reach the leadership in drivers standings following the wonderful first place taken in Austria, while Zsolt Baumgartner wants to celebrate with a great performance the recent agreement with JordanF1, which chose him as test driver for German and Hungarian GPs. In order to prepare to the best the fourth round of the Championship, Coloni Motorsport Monday carried out with goods results a test in Magione (I), trying out his Lola with the gear ratio and setup chosen for Monaco.
The first contact with Monaco GP is scheduled on Friday morning, at h. 9 (local time, GMT+1) for the free practice.
