FIA F3000 International Championship - Race preview
Round 6 (of 10). Magny-Cours, France. July 1st 2000.
TESTING TIMES SEE NORDIC READY TO QUALIFY.
As the FIA F3000 International Championship season passes the half-distance point, the teams head to France for the French Grand Prix support race at Nevers Magny-Cours, this coming weekend. The Nordic Racing team shall be looking to build on its points scoring success at Monaco, just over three weeks ago, where Kevin McGarrity finished the race in fifth place.
The teams two drivers Justin Wilson and Kevin McGarrity have just returned from an intensive two-day FIA F3000 official test at the A1-Ring in Austria, where Wilson posted a time that would hve given him third on the grid, had this been a qualifying session. "The to-day test went really well and the team was able to iron out some small problems that we had with the car," explained Wilson. "Now we really feel that both Kevin and I have a chance to qualify well at Magny-Cours, where I hope to extend my points in the table."
The race at Magny-Cours, which is situated in north-east France, is invariably hot and humid, with the long sweeping straights that are punctuated by sharp hairpin, forcing the drivers to keep their minds on the job in hand. One small mistake could see a driver finishing his race in one of the many gravel traps that litter the circuit.
"A month is a long time to wait when you have scored points in the previous round and want to confirm if you are on a roll. But we are looking forward to Magny-Cours and are hoping to move into the top 3 in the Team Championship Table. We have found a few more things which seem to have improved the cars performance in testing, so now we have to prove it in qualifying," said Nordic Team Manager Chris Mower.
