IMOLA (San Marino) -- 22/04/2004 -- Great anticipation surrounds the start of the 2004 FIA Formula 3000 Championship at the San Marino race.
The winter break saw Robert Doornbos, his team mate Vitantonio Liuzzi and their Team Arden testing with excellent results in Jerez, Silverstone and Barcellona. Last week Robert clocked the 3rd fastest time of both the testing days. After a comprehensive test programme at various venues (simulations of: ''long runs'','' pit stops'', different set up solutions, etc..) the pre-season preparation come to a close. Doornbos is cautiously optimistic about its potential and he is very confident in a good race at Imola.
For Robert the new season is perhaps one of the most important in his career to date. The young Dutch has to learn a lot being a ''rookie'' in the FIA F3000 series, this year. "I'm very excited to race my first ever FIA F3000 race'' he said "I am fully aware that I have to learn a lot. My motivation is strong but I will try to be amongst the top group this season, too. All the pre-seasonal tests have been very promising".
FIA F3000 continues to be an important stepping stone in the development of young drivers.
