19 and 20 April the expected 2003 season of F.I.A. F.3000 International will start on the Imola track, on the occasion of the F.1 GP of San Marino and for this important appointment Coloni Motorsport aims straight to the victory, thanks to the great work of development done in winter and to the results achieved in the official F.I.A. tests.
The F.3000 International, for the constant efforts of F.I.A. and Lola, Zytek, Avon and Motul, is today the best feeder category for F.1 (Wilson and Pizzonia are the best proof) and in 2003 too the Championship will line up twenty cars, the best and fastest single-seater in the crowded 3-litres category.
Coloni Motorsport is one of the "historical" teams of the Championship, always having believed in the F.I.A. F.3000 International, and for the incoming season chose two of the best talents of the world Motorsport scene, Zsolt Baumgartner and Ricardo Sperafico, with the goal of following the winning strip started in 2002.
Besides, for this year too Coloni Motorsport will be supported by the prestigious Italian weekly magazine "Autosprint", present with his logo on the Coloni's cars.
Baumgartner, the young Hungarian promise, worked hard in the past weeks to return fully fit after the knee injury which stopped him before the Imola test and in the following test in Barcelona he widely showed his value, greatly progressing in the car development and taking the seventh place in spite of the race setup, not forgetting the new track record in Magione (I), obtained in a private test.
Ricardo Sperafico, BMW Williams F1 Team tester, achieved great results in the collective test, in particular in Barcelona, where he dominated the two-day test with an excellent time.
Coloni Motorsport will be on track starting from Friday for the qualifying session, while Saturday will start the first race of the new season. Follows the event schedule, which Eurosport will broadcast Sunday 20 April at 08,30 h.
Paolo Coloni, Team Principal: "I hope to see on track the results of the great work done, we're happy to start a new season in Italy, at "home", and being together with F.1 give us the right stimulus in order to look forward to the first race. We're confident thanks to what we did in winter".
Zsolt Baumgartner, driver: "All the things are going ok, we well prepared the car and I'm sure that tomorrow we will be in the front rows of the grid. I'm tranquil about the weather, I hope for the sun but I'm not scared of the rain".
Ricardo Sperafico, driver: "I'm confident for tomorrow, we obtained good results in the tests, both in Imola and Barcelona, besides the car is really good, we've only to wait for the weather, but I'm sure that we will get good results with the rain too".
