Jean Karl Vernay best Volkswagen driver at Zolder

With a tenth-place finish Jean Karl Vernay (F) was the best Volkswagen driver at the Formula 3 Masters round at Zolder, Belgium, the international meeting of the Formula 3 drivers. Like Martin Plowman (GB), who finished 14th from grid position 35, the Frenchman made a strong showing in the race after starting from position 29. Edoardo Mortara (I), the leader of the Formula 3 Euro Series standings, occupied 15th place. Franck Mailleux (F) retired as early as in the starting stage.

Strong performance by Maximilian Sandritter in Japan

Masaru Hamasaki won rounds three and four of the Volkswagen GTI Cup in Japan. But the showing of the German "exchange student" Maximilian Sandritter, who finished twice as the runner-up while running as a guest entrant in Asia, attracted attention at Tsukuba as well. The 19-year-old from Raubling had qualified for participation in the Japanese race as the best rookie at the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup's mid-point. Mitsuru Hagiwara completed the podium in both races.

35 vehicles in Volkswagen Trial at Tsukuba

35 vehicles participated in the second round of the Volkswagen Racing Circuit Trial at Tsukuba, Japan. Divided into four classes, two drivers, respectively, compete against each other at the amateur racing series. The drivers with the best overall times are the winners. At Tsukuba, the Volkswagen Golf drivers Takashi Inomaki, Akira Ishizawa, Ryotaro Kojima and Nachi Fukada shone with best-in-class values.

Jared Mortimer is the man of the day at Phakisa

Jared Mortimer is the big winner of the sixth race weekend of the Volkswagen Polo Cup South Africa. While Mortimer had to settle for third place behind Matthew Hodges and Miguel Pasqualli in the first race, he clinched a commanding victory of the second round with a 2.6-second advantage over Bryan Morgan and Pasqualli. The 22-year-old driver added the fastest laps in each of the two eight-lap races to his tally as well.

Double podium finishes for Morgado, Orr and Conje

Christiano Morgado, Wesleigh Orr and Gavin Cronje each won two trophies at the Formula Volkswagen race weekend at Phakisa. The three drivers finished both races of the South African junior series in exactly this order. While in the first race things had been relatively easy for Morgada with a 3.4-second lead, he clinched victory 0.7 seconds ahead of the runner-up in the second round.

Czech Circuit Championship
Antonin Blazek finishes in the top ten

Antonin Blazek achieved a respectable tenth place in the Czech Circuit Championship at Most. The 18-year-old Czech in his 195-hp Polo fielded by Charouz Racing System competed in the class up to two litres of cubic capacity and was often up against rivals with more powerful engines.
