R. Cary Capparelli, President and Chief Executive Officer, Active Worldwide Sports LLC, organizers of the United States Formula Three Championship Powered by Volkswagen, announced that the championship is currently considering the addition of the Formula Super Vee category as a 'Group B' for the 2001 season. "The concept was presented to USF3 by some of the customers of our renowned motor builder Bertil Sollenskog," said Capparelli. "There is considerable interest, and this idea can enhance our starting fields in 2001. Bertil supports this theory."
Capparelli noted that Active Worldwide Sports LLC is evaluating the total number of Formula Super Vee cars available, the quality of those cars and drivers, various sanctioning ramifications, and the approval of Volkswagen Motorsport AG.
The United States Formula Three Championship Powered by Volkswagen uses an advanced technology 2.0 liter Volkswagen race motor producing about 205 horsepower. Formula Super Vee cars are powered by a 1.8 liter Volkswagen race motor producing about 185 horsepower.
