CHICAGO, IL --- Stuart Crow was officially declared the winner of the 2000 United States Formula Three Championship Powered by Volkswagen and Luciano Gomide has been named recipient of the 2000 G. Garvin Brown III 'Driver of the Year Award'. Crow, of Dallas, Texas, captured three race wins early in the season and held on to win the championship with 152 points. Crow, a former Formula Super Vee Champion and Formula Atlantic race winner, entered USF3 to begin his renaisance back into the sport: "It's absolutely great to be the first champion in USF3," declared Crow. Crow plans to continue in USF3 in 2001 with a young protege driver. He also plans to continue development of his Ralt race chassis. Gomide, of Rio de Janerio, Brazil, joined USF3 via the British Formula Renault Championship. Upon his arrival midway through the season at Quebec City, Gomide captured seven consecutive race wins, seven pole positions and seven quick race laps. His late charge for the championship fell just five points short. "No doubt, Luciano demonstrated his sensational ability to drive a race car quickly. Perhaps if he joined USF3 from the beginning, he would be the inaugural champion," said R. Cary Capparelli, President and Chief Executive Officer of Active Worldwide Sports LLC, organizers of the United States Formula Three Championship Powered by Volkswagen. "He truly deserves the G. Garvin Brown III Driver of the Year Award."
