Racing Engineering wins 2006 championship Miguel Molina had not made it to the top position of the podium so far, but he finally got his first win in the last race of the season. All four Racing Engineering drivers celebrated victories during the 2006 Spanish Formula 3 Championship and the team obtained the Team Championship title for the sixth consecutive time.

After celebrating an amazing day of success yesterday, a lot was expected from Racing Engineering's drivers during the last race of the season. On one hand the team championship had to be secured and on the other hand the goal was to bring one of Racing Engineering's drivers onto the top position of the podium again. Both objectives were reached.

Miguel Molina had an excellent start in Sunday's race, but it was a breathtaking overtaking maneuver at the end of the straight that put Miguel in the leading position. From that moment on Miguel pushed hard, opening a time gap to the rest of the field, allowing him to celebrate the victory in a race he dominated from the very beginning.

Behind Miguel, Javier Villa was stuck in third position. Although faster than Llobell running in second position, Javier was slowed down by a problem on his car that forced him into retirement. On the other hand, Sergio Jimenez, who started from a position far back on the grid, had an outstanding race with incredible overtaking maneuvers and finished the race in third position. Nicolas Prost, glorious winner of Saturday's race, scored points once more today when finishing the race in fifth position.

For Racing Engineering, it's time to look at the future already. During the upcoming week Racing Engineering will have its driver selection at the Jerez circuit with the aim to find the drivers to defend the team's colors during the next season.

Sergio Jimenez: "I had a good start and pushed hard overtaking a lot of drivers until I reached the group at the top of the field. After overtaking Javier and Risatti, I was already in third position. My rhythm was very fast and I think with only one more lap I could have made it into second position. This was a very tough year for me given the tremendous amount of problems I faced with the stewards during this season."

Javier Villa: "There isn't much to say for me. I was in third position right after the start and although I was faster than the driver in second, my car started to have a problem. We already noticed this problem in earlier sessions, but only in one section of the track, which made us think it was due to going with very low revolutions in this part of the track. So we thought it wasn't of importance. Well, bad luck. I came here to help Sergio as well as win the team championship title."

Miguel Molina: "Today I celebrated my first victory in Formula racing and additionally on my home track! I am really happy. I had a great start overtaking Llobell and after I pushed to secure my win."

Nicolas Prost: "My start was good, but shortly after I touched the gravel and my tyres suffered. I wasn't able to keep Risatti and Sergio Jimenez behind me anymore. The team, once more, has realized a great job."

Alfonso de Orleans-Borbon: "Another win and this time it's Miguel. This means that all our four drivers were able to win during this season, thus being a good indicator of the team's level. The boys really deserve winning the team championship title. I am happy and would like to congratulate all members of the team."
