Positive F3 test in Snetterton

Young French driver Julien Gerbi impressed Team West-Tec during a two day test at Snetterton in the last week of November.

Julien, who has been racing in the USA for the last two years, hopes to step up in 2009 and has been in communication with West-Tec for quite some time.

Despite the test being affected by fog, snow, frost and rain, Julien showed well as he lapped consistently over both days. Despite being new to the team, car and circuit, Julien soon got into the groove and was able to record competitive lap times which belied his experience level.

At the end of the first day, the French driver got more confortable at the wheel of the Dallara 306, and managed to set a lap only 0.4 seconds slower than Robbie Kerr's time (British F3 Champion, A1 Series and World Series Renault race winner), present on that day on the last generation car set for the british weather.

Gavin Wills, Team West-Tec:

Julien was unlucky in that the weather was terrible, but he did a mature and professional job to complete a great deal of lappery. He was consistent and, I am sure, has the ability to race competitively at Formula 3 level.

Julien Gerbi:

I was delighted to get into a front running Formula 3 car, and Team West-Tec were great to work with. The poor weather was a shame but I learnt a great deal. It was very difficult to warm the tyres, regarding the fact the temperature was only between 2 and 5o. and we ran on Dunlop tyres developed for Spain and which are not working well at low temperature. Nevertheless, I felt very confortable with the team and the car and managed to get in Kerr's times at the end of the day. Racing in Formula 3 in 2009 is one of my main aim for next year, and so I am working with my sponsors to find a good solution.

John Miller, Team West-Tec:

In Snetterton, Julien exceeded our high expectations both in and out of the car. He is very pleasant to work with and did a good job. I think, with the right team and preparation, he could be a force in Formula 3 and we are certainly interested in him driving with us if possible.
