RAMEZ AZZAM ON THE PACE IN F3 TEST AT VARANO!
VARANO, JULY 24 2009 - Ramez Azzam has successfully completed a second Formula 3 test for Italian outfit BVM Target at Varano (Italy) last week. After having got acquainted with the car and team already a fortnight ago at Misano Adriatico, the Formula Renault racer completed a busy and productive two-day program this Wednesday and Thursday. Objective for this second outing was to get a better understanding of the car's mechanical and aero dynamical features and to improve his performance over the course of the two days. On Thursday, Azzam surprised many in the paddock by almost matching the lap times of some of the top ranked drivers in the Italian F3 Championship on used tires!
Under tropical circumstances, Azzam drove approximately 140 laps over both days at the 2.800 meter long sea-side circuit. After getting to grips with the narrow track on Wednesday morning, Azzam and his engineering team from BVM Target started a full program that afternoon focusing on exploring and maximizing the mechanical characteristics of his Dallara-Fiat. On the second day of testing, Azzam already showed a blistering pace as he almost matched the lap times of some of the top ranked drivers in the Italian Series on used tires! A final attempt on Thursday afternoon to improve his lap times on new tires didn't bring the desired extra tenths of a second however, as the Dubai based driver was hindered by traffic. Despite this small set-back, Azzam and his BVM Target team were very satisfied with the progress made.
RAMEZ AZZAM: "I'm pretty upbeat after this two-day test as we managed to complete our program, get a good understanding of the car and even exceed our expectations with regards to the pace we demonstrated. Being used to drive a Formula Renault two-liter racer, these two days have been some sort of a physical test for me as well, especially as it was almost 40 degrees Celsius out there! I'm very happy with the team, they did a great job. We've even scheduled a third test already at the end of August to continue our preparations. As there is quite a big break now before our next Western European Cup race meeting at Valencia in September, I will use the next few weeks to try and get my driving license."
