VARANO: FOURTH VICTORY FOR RICHELMI, ON THE PODIUM CAMPANA TOO
Positive weekend for team Lucidi Motors at Varano de' Melegari in the fifth round of the Italian Formula 3 Championship.
After the pole position in qualifying on Saturday with the lap time of 1'02.482, Stephane Richelmi achieved his fourth victory of the season in race one, while in race two the driver from Monaco kept the starting eighth position until the chequered flag.
Sergio Campana lived a partially troubled weekend instead, as he was victim of an engine failure in the second session of free practice which conditioned his qualifying. Sixth on the starting grid (1'02.850), the Italian driver kept the position in race one. Race two was more battled and saw him starting third and finishing second.
Some more difficulties for Gianmarco Raimondo, nineteenth in qualifying (1'04.049). The young Canadian ended the two races respectively in twenty-first and eighteenth place, obtaining points for the rookies' classification.
Richelmi is now second in the classification at 99 points, four points shy the leader; Campana is seventh at 55. Raimondo is third in the rookies' classification at 83 points and his gap to the top is 55 points.
Gabriele Lucidi (Team Principal):
"The weekend turned out to be certainly positive for Richelmi, who thanks to the victory got sensibly closer to the top of the classification. The engine failure conditioned Campana's qualifying unfortunately, but a good podium arrived for him in race two. Raimondo did not find the hang of this track: the points obtained allow him to keep the third place in the rookies' classification anyway".
The Italian Formula 3 Championship will be back on track next 26 September at Vallelunga.
