HOCKENHEIM: FIRST SEASONAL PODIUM FOR CAMPANA. ABSOLUTE POINTS FOR THE ROOKIES RICHELMI AND RAIMONDO

Sergio Campana harvested at Hockenheim (Germany) the first podium of the season in the second round of the Italian Formula 3 Championship.

In qualifying on Sarurday, which started on heavy rain diminished in intensity as minutes went by, Sergio Campana set the third fastes time in 1'53.282. The roulette of the final minutes, whereby the tarmac was getting drier and drier, penalyzed Stephane Richelmi instead who qualifyied twelfth in 1'54.347, and Gianmarco Raimondo, twenty-sixth in 1'59.371.

In race one, the three drivers were authors of three good recoveries: Campana, after being involved in the initial bagarre at the hairpin, recovered back strongly up to the second position under the chequered flag. Richelmi was not any worse and finished fourth, right at the feet of the podium, while a long series of overtaking took Raimondo to recover up to the twelfth final place, second of the rookies.

Race two was less positive and saw a blameless Campana involved in an incident at lap one, same outcome for Richelmi during lap three. Another good recovery was done by Raimondo who finished in eleventh place instead.

In the absolute classification, Richelmi is now fifth at 31 points, eight shy the leader, while Campana is eighth at 15. Raimondo is currently third in the rookies' classification at 41 points and has an 18 points gap to the lead.

Gabriele Lucidi (Team Principal):
"We unfortunately harvested results inferior to the level of competitiveness showed on track. Campana was not far from the pole and in race one, as Richelmi, was author of a good recovery; it is a shame that they were faultlessly involved in two accidents today that forced both of them to the retirement. Raimondo has been the ony one of the team to finish the two races: he is growing and his third place in the rookies classification is certainly encouraging".

The Italian Formula 3 Championship will be back on track next 4 July at Imola.
