American Formula BMW Americas champion becomes a driver to watch at Misano World Circuit

MISANO ADRIATICO, ITALY (April 16, 2010) - Rising American talent Gabby Chaves continued preparations for his inaugural season of European junior formula car competition on Wednesday and Thursday (April 14-15), with a strong showing in Italian Formula 3 Championship testing at the Misano World Circuit. The Eurointernational racer, despite having never seen the Italian circuit previously, ended official series testing on day one with third best time, before adding a top-10 result in day two private testing.

With the start of the 2010 Italian Formula 3 Championship fast approaching, Chaves and the rest of the 25+ car field traveled to the Misano World Circuit for the lone official pre-season test. For Chaves, the goal right from the get go was to learn the 4.226-km road course - which will host Rounds One and Two - and continue developing his Eurointernational prepared Mygale M-10 Formula Three racing steed. Despite a wet track greeting Chaves and the rest the Italian F3 racers in the opening session, the highly-rated American was ready to meet his pre-test objectives. Unfortunately an engine malfunction limited Chaves to just five laps in the session. Thanks to some quick work by his crew, the reigning Formula BMW Americas champion was back behind the wheel when the second session got underway. Steadily improving with each lap, Chaves was within striking distance of the leaders. That trend continued in the third session, as despite being forced to pit prematurely for a suspension problem, Chaves ran times on par with racers more experienced with the Formula Three class and the Misano World Circuit. Chaves, making the most of a now fully dry track, ended official testing as driver worth keeping an eye on, posting the third fastest time of the day.

"It was a very tough day for both the team and me, but we did manage to improve immensely towards the end of the day," stated Chaves. "It's great to be on the pace with the top teams, but we still have to work very hard in order to be competitive for the championship."

Like the vast majority of the leading Italian Formula 3 Championship teams, Chaves and Eurointernational remained at the Misano World Circuit on Thursday, taking part in private testing. Being a single-car rookie team, the goal for Chaves during all four sessions of private testing - as has been the case at all the test outing thus far - was to gather data and establish a good base setup to work with throughout the 2010 season. The 16 year-old racer accomplished that goal, routinely posting times among the top-10 en route to completing 93 laps, second most of any driver during the test.

Returning to the San Pietro Mosezzo base of operations - just outside of Milan - Eurointernational and Chaves are now preparing for the start of 2010 Italian Formula 3 Championship, which gets underway on April 24-25, with Rounds One and Two at the Misano World Circuit.
