Hi-res picture download 18/11/2009 - Corbetta Competizioni is delighted to announce an agreement with the driver Alex Fontana for the 2010 season with an option for 2011.
The young Swiss, 17 years-old, has been official Swiss Hutless driver in karting before moving to PCR with which in 2008 he has been vice-champion in the International Open Masters and obtained the title in the Bridgestone Cup, followed by the title of Swiss champion in KF3 in 2007. In his palmares, the world junior final can be mentioned in the four times in 2006 at Dubai. In the season just finished, Fontana made his debut to single seaters obtaining two victories in the Italian Formula Azzurra championship at Varano and Imola.
After the first testing days at the wheel of the Dallara F309 powered FPT Racing, the winter testing programme will continue at the beginning of December at Vallelunga. In January, the decision will be made, in agreement with driver's management, about the participation to the new Formula Abarth or a direct involvement in the Italian Formula 3 championship.
Angelo Corbetta (Team Principal):
"In the last months we followed carefully Alex and we are very satisfied by him joining our team. I appreciated his approach with engineers and the humility with which he faced the first tests. He already run almost 2000Km improving constantly run after run: he certainly has the potential to be competitive in Formula Abarth but I do not rule out the chance that he can express himself in Formula 3 among the rookies".
"This is an important step in my career: the team put me at ease since the beginning and it has been easy to work in the right way in such a relaxed environment. Independently from the choice between Formula Abarth or Formula 3 I will try to give my best to defend team's colours, perhaps getting some satisfactions in the first year that is gonna be preparatory to 2011 anyway".
