Andrea Caldarelli gets more podium time at Varano

As the Italian Formula 3 Championship was back on-track at Varano De' Melegari, Andrea Caldarelli scored his third podium finish over 10 races entered in 2010. The Pescara-based racer, running for Prema Powerteam, faced his first "regular" weekend, after experiencing the highs of Misano and Mugello as well as the lows of Imola and Hockenheim. While he keeps trailing the lead in standings by 12 points, the leader himself has changed, with Cesar Ramos being propelled on top at the small Parma venue.

The potential showcased by Caldarelli has been impressive since practice, when he cruised at the top of the timesheets with old tires in front of his main rivals. While the pole position might have seemed a little far away, only bad luck has deprived him of a spot on front row. On Race 1 then, the stewards decided to start under safety-car conditions due to the huge amount of filler on the track, virtually eliminating any chance of an attack. At that point, after briefly challenging for 2nd, Andrea administrated his margin to the podium.

On the PM race, Caldarelli was forced to start from 6th place due to the reversed top-8 grid format from qualifying. He climbed up one spot at the start, and fought for more, before having to settle for a top-5. As he stands with 91 points, his next chance to take a shot at the lead will be at Vallelunga on September 26.
