HO-PIN TUNG LACKS OF HORSEPOWER

Zandvoort, 06 AUGUST 2006 -- This weekend at the BP Ultimate Masters of Formula 3 the best Formula 3 drivers of the world competed to try and win the race and win the title "Ultimate Master of Formula 3". The race has been won before by drivers like David Coulthard, Jos Verstappen, Christian Klien and Tom Coronel. Unfortunately this weekend Ho-Pin was at an disadvantage with his Opel Spiess engine compared to the more powerfull Mercedes engines and victory was out of reach. He started the race in an unusual 24th spot and finished the race in lap 20 because of differential problems.

Ho-Pin: "At some parts of the track the others were much faster than me, on the straights I saw them coming in my mirrors. I did the maximum I could do all weekend but this is not my regular position on the track. I would like to meet my collegues again with the same chassis and engine combination. I will concentrate on increasing my championship lead in the German Formula 3 cup. Next week in Assen I will be at the front of the grid again and I will probabely win my 7th and maybe 8th race of the season", says a assertive Ho-Pin Tung.

QUALIFICATION

As a result of problems with the differential for the two JB Motorsport drivers, they could not qualify in their regular places at the front of the Formula 3 grid. The qualification in which Giedo van der Garde scored the pole position was dominated by the much stronger Dallara-Mercedes combinations. Despite the problems with the differentialHo-Pin qualifies in 24th spot as the best driver with the Lola-Opel Spiess combination.

RACE

Even before the race started JB Motorsport teammate Ferdinand Kool was the first driver out of the race caused by technical problems. While Giedo van der Garde had a terrible start from pole position and lost two places Ho-Pin won some places at the start. Paul di Resta could enter the Tarzan-corner as first followed by Sebastien Buemi. In the eight lap van der Garde overtook Buemi and started to close on ASM teammate Di Resta. In the meantime Ho-Pin struggles to compete with the more powerfull engines and he loses time at some parts of the track due to lack of horsepower. Unfortunately in lap 20 he parked the car because of a problem with the differential and will try to increase his championship lead in the German Formula 3 Cup next week at the Rizla Racing Days in Assen.

HO-PIN: "This was a very dissapointing race for me. We knew before the race we were at a disadvantage with our engine. This season I have won many times in the German F3 Cup and I should have been competative here also but unfortunately it didn't work out well altough I was fastest the whole weekend with the Opel-Spiess engine. Hopefully I will have better races next week in Assen!".
