Laurens Vanthoor disappointed after Masters of F3
ZANDVOORT. This weekend the 21st edition of the internationally renowned Masters of F3 took place at Zandvoort. By finishing seventh Laurens Vanthoor scored his best result there since his first participation in 2009, but he wasn’t happy after the race. “An incident at the start with another car pushing me, cost me a podium”, was the first comment of the young Limburger after the race.
The Masters of F3 in Zandvoort meant the end of a long and busy summer for Laurens Vanthoor, with podium finishes at the Norisring, in Spa and at the Nürburgring and he is now preparing for the races in the autumn, starting with races in the United Kingdom, at Silverstone on September 10 and 11.
On Saturday morning the free practice sessions for the Masters of F3 fell in the water quite literally. The constant change of rain and dry periods made it very hard for the teams and the drivers to prepare for the race.
Laurens Vanthoor: “It was hard this morning in free practice because the conditions kept changing. It will be difficult given our limited preparation, but there is always a chance of a good result. It is the Masters and everything is possible.”
Signature VW driver Laurens Vanthoor eventually ended in seventh place, in the top half of the classification, but it was not enough to his own opinion.
Laurens Vanthoor: “I cannot be satisfied with seventh place, but there was not much more in it. We are still very much behind Prema and Mücke and that was shown again here in this race against the clock.”
The race was already decided for Laurens Vanthoor before the first corner, after an incident at the start he consolidated his seventh position.
Laurens Vanthoor: “The first cars got tangled up and as a result I was pushed from my line by another competitor and ended up in seventh place, a place that I retained for the rest of the race. Without the incident with the other car I would have been on the podium. How do I know? Well, the opponent who pushed me finished third...and so that could have been my position.”
Laurens Vanthoor, ambassador of Circuit Zolder and representative of the RACB National Team will now continue the season at Silverstone, for the seventh of nine Formula 3 EuroSeries meetings.
