Eriksson just outside the top ten after Macau Grand Prix charge

Jimmy Eriksson finished in 11 place in the 2012 Macau Grand Prix in China, after gradually working his way back up through the field following a less-than-perfect beginning to the weekend.

Eriksson posted the 15 fastest time in the opening practice session on Thursday morning, but was forced to start the Saturday Qualification Race from 22 place on the exceptionally strong 30-car grid after his engine lost power during the preceding – and crucial – qualifying session.

Eriksson, however, managed to haul himself into 17 by the end of the race, the outcome of which was used to determine the grid positions for Sunday’s 15-lap finale.

Once there, Eriksson continued his rise, as he overtook a number of rivals – including current British F3 champion Jack Harvey – on his way to the end result just outside the top ten.

Jimmy Eriksson leaves the Macau Grand Prix as the highest-placed finisher from the ranks of the German ATS Formula 3 Cup championship, and as the lead Galaxy Double R Racing driver.

“A much better weekend at Macau than the one I had last year; it feels really good to have regained the confidence around here,” says Jimmy Eriksson.

“I’m satisfied with my own performance and the pace I was able to run at in both the Qualification Race and the finale; I was never passed by another car, and I made up quite a few places from my original grid slot.

It was a shame that the engine wasn’t giving us the power we needed in qualifying, because I’m certain that I could have started quite a bit further up the grid; particularly as I had saved two sets of new tyres for that session.

There have been surprisingly few incidents this year – a seal of quality that just goes to show how strong this field is – and I have had to truly fight for every position.

Overall, I have to be happy with this weekend, and it has been an absolutely incredible experience to race an F3 car around the streets of Macau again!”

The Macau Grand Prix marks the final race of Jimmy Eriksson’s 2012 campaign – but it won’t be long until he returns to the track. Further information on this will follow in due course.
