SECOND NEW DALLARA TO ADD TO TITLE CHANCES FOR TANDERSPORT IN '08
TanderSport has received a new years' present that may double its chances of success this year, following conformation today that the team will add a second Dallara F307 chassis to its 2008 Kumho Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship campaign.
The team, owned by Australian V8 Supercar champion Garth Tander and F3 race winner and championship runner-up Leanne Tander, has reached an agreement with car owner James Rosenberg to prepare and run an ex European F3, Mercedes-Benz Powered Dallara for the full 2008 Australian Drivers Championship.
A driver for the car will be announced within the next few weeks.
Additionally, the teams' first HWA -Mercedes engine arrived at their new Melbourne factory on December 30th, the first to land in Australia.
Following an overhaul of the car and the application of a new livery, TanderSport will begin a testing program in preparation for the opening round at Eastern Creek on February 3rd.
The car to be driven by Leanne Tander in 2008 is currently still in Europe and will be prepared overseas before being freighted, complete with engine, to Australia mid-January.
"We are very pleased to be able to add a second F307 Dallara to TanderSport this season," Garth Tander said.
"It's always good to have two identical cars to compare data and setup information. This definitely strengthens our team and will give us an extra boost to challenge for the Gold Star once again in 2008.
"As a one-car team we challenged strongly for the championship for all of last season, so to strengthen our team like this essentially doubles our chances of winning, and shows how serious TanderSport is when it comes to winning in Formula 3.
"It's a great way to start the New Year" he said.
