Khumo Tyres Australian Formula 3 Championship
The racing was fast and furious over the weekend , the appearance of last years Champion Karl Reindler in a Team BRM F304 , and the first meeting of the now separated David Borg driver Aaron Caratti from the Astuti Motorsport team only running Chris Alajajian was expected to add some new permutations to the weekend.
Saturday qualifying was an indication of the racing to come when in qualifying 1 for Race 1, Caratti with no time left took pole from Trimble only to see Reindler put in a blinder to gain pole by 1100 hundredth of a second from Caratti.
The top 4 in the Championship division where all within 400 hundredth of one another the unlucky fourth being Macrow, also putting in some creditable times for her first drive in an F3 was Leanne Tander-Ferrier replacing Michael Caruso in the Piccolo F301.
Trophy class also had good close racing with Maddocks fresh from an overseas jaunt taking the point from Holmes and Anderson.
This time Macrow showed all his talent to take pole from Trimble, Reindler and Caratti the out of luck Alajajian not showing up as was expected after a big off on Friday which kept the Astuti camp burning the mid night oil to rebuild the car.
Trophy class had Holmes take it from Maddocks with young Kiwi Marc Williams again having engine problems.
Race one on Sunday were the usual close tussles that have been part of this year's race with Caratti and Trimble fighting for the win and Reindler and Macrow having their own little tussle slightly behind. Caratti got the upper hand with several laps to go and held off the hard charging Trimble with Macrow claiming third after Reindler had a slight of near MG corner.
Trophy class points went to Maddocks from Anderson and Boothman, Holmes ran out of fuel on the last lap and Williams retired early with engine problems.
With Macrow on Pole from Trimble the crowd were assured of some good racing and that they got with the front row quickly joined by Caratti and Reindler with Gilmour, Occhipinti and Ferrier-Tander not far behind. Macrow had a big off coming out of Southern hairpin which gave the lead to Trimble with Caratti hounding him all the way, Reindler had dropped back and Macrow was trying to get back to the leading bunch.
On lap 9 Alajajian spun off with a blown engine and was parked precariously at Lukey Heights and during this drama Caratti drove around Trimble as they entered Southern loop.
Probably one of the passing moves that will be talked about for a long time and took the lead ,however the race was red flagged which cost Caratti a double for the day as the results where declared .
Holmes made up for his bad luck in the first race by beating home Maddocks to take the Trophy class points for race 2.
The circus now moves to Qld for round 4 of the Championship to be conducted by the AMRS on July 2/3 so be there for exciting racing.
