Zettl Motorsport goes for it
The goal and philosophy of the ATS Formula 3 Cup are clear: to contest Formula 3 racing on the highest level and offer newcomers - both teams and drivers - a cost-efficient chance of competing in professional single-seater sport. The ATS Formula 3 Cup debut of Team Zettl Motorsport in 2009 impressively underlines the fair chances provided by the series.
Team Principal Reinhard Zettl approaches his squad's Formula 3 involvement at full steam: he will enter three Dallaras F307 Mercedes that will be raced by Markus Pommer, Nico Monien and Shirley van der Lof. A line-up comprising two rookies and an experienced girl racer. While Hans Rummler, a man who knows the scene very well, was signed as the team's Motorsport Manager. To date, Rummler worked in the management of the successful Austrian team HS Technik Motorsport. "Together we succeeded in forming a strong and competitive squad for the new ATS Formula 3 Cup season," promises Team Principal Reinhard Zettl. "And we have set ourselves ambitious goals for the forthcoming season."
Zettl Motorsport was founded only in 2007 and in 2008, it contested the German young-talent series ADAC Formula Masters. An involvement that will be continued in addition to competing in the fastest German single-seater series. Both series complement one another perfectly as they both represent parts of the new ADAC Masters Weekend event package.
Markus Pommer will make his Formula 3 debut with the number 27 on his car. The 18-year old German has been closely connected with the team for several years. In 2007, he raced in the Formula BMW and in 2008, he contested the ADAC Formula Masters for Team Abt Sportsline. In the end, the young gun had five podium finishes under his belt and finished fifth in the championship. "I regard the ATS Formula 3 Cup as a major challenge and hope to be able to secure the best possible championship position, in the end," Pommer says.
With Nico Monien, the team even succeeded in signing the runner-up of the 2008 ADAC Masters season for its ATS Formula 3 Cup debut. The 18-year old will race the car decorated with the No 28. "With Markus Pommer and Nico Monien, we hope to be particularly successful in the rookie ranking," reveals Team Manager Hans Rummler.
Meanwhile, the fact that Shirley van der Lof joined Zettl Motorsport represents a minor surprise. In the 2008 ATS Formula 3 Trophy, the now 22-year old girl racer from the Netherlands celebrated three race wins and secured several other podium finishes. In the future, her single-seater will bear the red No 29.
With the two rookies Markus Pommer and Nico Monien as well as their experienced team-mate Shirley van der Lof, Zettl Motorsport can rely on a competitive driver line-up for their ATS Formula 3 Cup debut season. And the squad is determined to prove that newcomers also are able to make for highlights, in Germany's fastest single-seater series.
